Progress… (?!)

October 17, 2018 by Dargoth 764 Comments

Anyone looking at the translation repository lately has noticed that I’ve actually been making good progress on the Paradox 2.23 translation lately, which I hope to continue. In addition to my work, I’ve been getting consistent help for other parts of the game that I’m not focused on. There are also a huge number of translated H-scenes that haven’t been merged into the repository, which I do plan on getting to sooner rather than later. That said, I’m looking at another 6 months at this rate to get a playable English version 2.23 out. It’s been more than 6 months since I even updated this blog, so time can fly! Still no word from Torotoro regarding Paradox version 3 (which will complete the game, for those new around here), but it will almost definitely be out in 2019.

As always, the latest files can be found at https://bitbucket.org/dargothtranslations/mgq-paradox-2/
Until at least the story is translated, I don’t consider this translation to be in playable shape, but I try to make sure the latest files will compile and work. However, I’m focused on doing a quality translation and actually getting it finished at some point, rather than releasing partial patches. It doesn’t help that the size of the game has made previous patching methods inconvenient or outright impossible…

Recently translated areas: Succubus Village, Gold Volcano
Currently working on: Lady’s Village + Big Rock Candy Scenic Mountain
Next up: Goddard area magical girl quest

MGQ Paradox 2 English Initial Patch

July 1, 2017 by Dargoth 4,442 Comments

MGQ Paradox Patch Teaser

Download the “patch” here:
7zip version that is hopefully more compatible with different operating systems: http://dargothtranslations.com/files/patches/MGQ Paradox 2 English Release 1.7z

If you don’t have anything that can open 7zip files, here’s a regular zip: http://dargothtranslations.com/files/patches/MGQ Paradox 2 English Release 1.zip

If the Japanese files in /Translation Files/Scripts/ have gibberish file names, the translation is not going to work. Either use the 7zip file, extract the zip with a different program, use applocale, or just set your computer to Japanese locale.

Instructions:

Note: This patch is technically compatible with versions 2.00-2.02 of Paradox and potentially with future versions as well. For best results and greater chances of future compatibility, I recommend using 2.02. However, if you only have 2.00 or 2.01 and don’t want to download another 2.31GB, you should be fine with the older versions for now. There are a few bugs that 2.02 fixes, namely the one where you can’t advance if you skip fighting Queen Alraune and continue the story elsewhere instead. If that happens to you, download 2.02 and copy your save over and you’ll be fine.

1. Unzip all the files in the zip into a directory. An empty directory is a good idea. The game directory works too if you don’t mind clutter. Just don’t run the Japanese Game.exe afterwards and complain that the patch didn’t work.

2. Double-click on RUNME.bat. The GameSelector program will prompt you to type/paste the path to your game directory. If you chose to copy the files into the game directory in step 1, you can just click OK here. This will take a while. You’ll probably have to press a key to close the GameSelector and Translator programs when they finish so the batch file can resume.

3. The translated version of the game can be found in the /out/ directory. The batch file creates a shortcut to the English Game.exe for you, though. Any saves you had should be copied over.

In order to view any of the scenes, requests, or battle fuckers from the first part of the game, you need to copy over all the files from the /Graphics/Pictures/ directory of part 1 to the /Graphics/Pictures/ directory of part 2. Overwrite the few files with the same name. Congratulations, that’s all you had to do to “merge” the two parts into one game. If you’ve already done this, you don’t have to do it again after running the translation programs.

Currently translated in this initial partial patch:

  • Almost all items (missing new accessories and some new armor)
  • Enemy and character names (although anyone you’ve recruited will still be in Japanese for now)
  • Interface for menus and battles
  • All the skills, abilities, job/race info, etc. from part 1. Some new ones. A few descriptions may be outdated.
  • …the title screen. Hey, it’s something.

NOT translated yet:

The actual text of the game… Still working on getting the part 1 translations into the new files. Hopefully that will be done in a matter of days. I’ve learned way more than I’ll ever need to know about file encodings, line endings, byte order marks, recursive merge strategies, and all the ways things can fuck up when attempting to merge over a half million lines of text.

We’re already going through the new maps to get the story translated ASAP. New content from part 2 as well as older content that was never translated in part 1 are being worked on simultaneously. Everything will eventually be translated. Sorry if you wanted to start over or do a new game+ in part 2 already — I’d suggest keeping part 1 around and playing with it for now.

I’m crossing my fingers that this method of patching results in fewer issues. The good news is that it’s compatible with different versions of the game, even future versions (depending on what changes), and it’s a whole lot easier to apply future translation patches after getting everything set up the first time. It should also be more idiot-proof than the picky patch.exe from before. Once Torotoro has stopped official updates for part 2, I’ll consider releasing patches in the old format as well as the new. Or if this method goes horribly…

If you didn’t already know, then for future reference, translation files can be found at: https://bitbucket.org/dargothtranslations/mgq-paradox-2/downloads/?tab=branches
The repository will be a bit of a mess until the maps and events are ready and everything is merged together. At any rate, you can place new files in the /Script/ directory and run Ytinasni.RpgMaker.Translator.exe to build a new version of the game.

MGQ Paradox Part 2 Translation Progress

June 26, 2017 by Dargoth 480 Comments

Quick update before I head off to bed. I’ve got just about all the interface and gameplay-related translations merged into the new files (about 600 item and skill conflicts to manually resolve). Sazaju’s on the maps and those seem to be going well enough. I had originally started on the events since they seemed like they’d be the hardest, but had to table that while ytinasni did work on the translation program. He came through as fast as always, but I still haven’t gotten back to those.

Anyway, I think I can promise at least a patch for the interface and gameplay elements for Monday night (like, midnight PDT – sorry Euros and East Coasters) Thursday? Friday? I’m awesome at underestimating how long these things take. Virtually no *new* content will be translated (character names and a few abilities at most), but at least you’ll be able to play through part 2 with an English interface, English battle text, and all your old items, skills, etc. translated.

For the adventurous, the script files and base files (minus Items.txt) are in usable condition and located in the Bitbucket repository along with the translation program needed to extract the scripts and then rebuild the game. https://bitbucket.org/dargothtranslations/mgq-paradox-2/downloads/ (grab zips of the scripts and base branches from the branches tab).

MGQ Paradox RPG Part 2 Released!

June 22, 2017 by Dargoth 206 Comments

Paradox part 2 is out! http://www.dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ201109.html

To merge the two chapters, all you have to do is copy the Graphics/Pictures directory from the old game to the new one.

To copy over your saves, copy the entire Save directory (not just a single save file) from the old game to the new one.

Bad news: currently dead in the water waiting on a fix for the translation program so that it’ll work with part 2. We’re also going to need to do some major reformatting to apply the translation to the new files, which is going to require more changes to the translation program, some scripting, and probably a lot of manual effort.

May 25, 2017 by Dargoth 651 Comments

It’s happening! http://b.dlsite.net/RG07939/archives/51790933.html

Oh yeah, and some guy named Rogue has been helping on the translation lately too. We’ll see what gets done in the next month and cross our fingers that the transition to the next chapter goes smoothly. See you in part 2…

So Many Monster Girls

February 7, 2017 by Dargoth 93 Comments

So after my last lament that there hadn’t been any good monster girl content in a long time, we’ve gotten a total bonanza over the last 6 or so weeks. Here’s my attempt to recap and provide some links to ones you might have missed.

1. Monster Girl Quest anime OVAs! http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE192468.html http://www.dlsite.com/maniax/announce/=/product_id/RJ193759.html

These could be better, but they’re all right. The lack of monster girl hentai anime is crazy given how popular they are in games and manga so it’s nice to at least get these. Watch Luka after he saves the world in MGQ continue doing what he does best. According to Torotoro, the anime plots are actually canon so there may be some Paradox tie-ins as well. Second episode comes out this Thursday, I believe.

I actually subtitled the first episode, but I do want to keep this blog piracy free. You can find the subtitled video in the 4chan monster girl games general in /vg/. Apparently some other group released a subtitled video of their own after me that spells Luka as Luca. No offense to them, but I’m guessing you don’t want to watch that one.

2. Succubus Prison http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE174492.html

The latest game from Tokinokogiri, who did the MGQ Delicious vore scenarios and the Succubus Kindergarten game. Succubus Prison is nothing short of amazing, and I really hope someone picks it up to translate because it’s a tough game to play even knowing Japanese. The art is great and uses vectors for animation (I think?) so it’s a step above static images. The only knock against it is the lack of voice acting.

3. Tokyo Tenma Devil Prison http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE185990.html

The original Tokyo Tenma came out 3.5 years ago and was pretty solid. It even had a mobile game based on it that I never checked out. Not sure if it still exists… Anyway, the original promised a sequel that I had given up on, but it actually just came out. I haven’t played it yet, but it promises a huge number of girls. Definitely worth a look.

4. Echidna Wars DX http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE187640.html

For the vore lovers among you, camel (guy who made the Cecil scenarios for MGQ) released an updated version of the classic Echidna Wars. The platforming action gameplay is solid and the pixel animations are wonderful. As a bonus, it’s 100% playable in English too.

5. Eroico Revision http://www.kyrieru.com/p/eroico.html

Speaking of updated versions of old classics, if you never played Eroico, you should check it out. If you bought it back when it was new, the updated version is free to download for you too.

6. FOBS updates http://zell999.blog.fc2.com/

Zell keeps updating FOBS with new content. More great pixel art.

7. Level Drain 3 http://www.dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ174698.html

Level Drain 3 is actually from last summer, but I had overlooked it for my last update. The first Level Drain game is forgettable, the second is halfway decent albeit unremarkable, but the third really surpassed expectations. It’s succubus focused (hence the title) but throws in a few monsters like a lamia and a slime. Lots of great scenes for every MG-related fetish, plus a good number of pegging scenes and a vore monster illustrated by Setouchi. The gameplay itself is stock RPGMaker and really not worth playing, but thankfully you can enter the code 2546 at the window of the brothel in the first town to become level 100 and access the scene replay room.

The selling point of this game is that all scenes are voiced, and the actresses do a great job. The writing is also excellent, although it throws some crazy walls of text at you describing scenes that really should have had accompanying illustration. This doesn’t do you a lot of good if you don’t speak Japanese, unfortunately. Also, almost every scene is essentially consensual (you’re paying for sex at brothels with your levels) so the writing and scenes are geared more towards pleasing the protagonist rather than humiliating or torturing him a la MGQ, Violated Hero, etc.

If you read to the bottom and are wondering where the hell the next Paradox patch is… Valentine’s Day, maybe?

MGQ Paradox English Patch 1.21.51 (Bug Fix)

November 5, 2016 by Dargoth 605 Comments

Minor patch to fix a few bugs and issues with the text. There are a lot of the latter left, but hopefully none of the former.

1.21.51: https://mega.nz/#!2V5FRCRI!NPwH1dO0DQRQiMwsnJD1_hKRCDo8DcbRBuLMzGePV7M

Backup: http://www109.zippyshare.com/v/NcokSIyw/file.html

  • Raise no longer crashes the game if cast on a living party member
  • You can battle Justice Kaiser now
  • Papi’s Smithy is once again functional after getting to crystal equipment

I missed the bug where the game crashes if you use Puff Puff with a flat chested character. So don’t do that. Luka, Sylph, any of the lolis I assume, etc.

Monster Girl Quest Paradox English Patch v1.21.50

October 31, 2016 by Dargoth 178 Comments

1.21.50: https://mega.nz/#!nA5QmARS!R-n7x1gBKnIxsLaj64OCYy27MIfSxE8Qm3c7MjrxG7I

Backup: http://www112.zippyshare.com/v/NKizQnSj/file.html

Happy Halloween! This patch is still missing translations in a few random places that really should be done by now, but it’s in a state I’d consider playable. We’ll continue to fill in missing parts, revise what’s already there, and crank out translations for the H-scenes and other content that’s been a lower priority lately. Sorry for all the delays….

If you want to check specifically for what events are done, look at the spreadsheet on bitbucket. https://bitbucket.org/dargothtranslations/paradox/raw/f9ecd0bdb4af23cd05d51a4e86f393798e5c949f/progress.xlsx

I should also have an actual readme or patch instructions by now, but I think it’s fairly self-explanatory. Put patch files in the game directory, run patch.exe, cross fingers.

MGQ Paradox English Translation 1.21.36

July 11, 2016 by Dargoth 356 Comments

1.21.36 Mega: https://mega.nz/#!bEowUYZT!k1EmaZWNoTWl1SuZW3raIH_NdmwyviPmN3RPWbL5XAk

Backup: http://www34.zippyshare.com/v/nGxS5kJK/file.html

Usual procedure applies. Unzip to a completely fresh copy of the game directory for version 1.21, run patch.exe, click patch. If you get an error, you have the wrong version of the game. Sorry for the shitty backup site but it appears that anonfiles is defunct.

So yeah, it’s been 3 months and the translation project hasn’t exactly made huge strides. Since the last patch, this patch does let you talk to all the monsters in battle on the Ilias Continent, but the seduction events aren’t done. A couple of the early BFs are translated, too. I said before that this is mostly a clean-up patch, but it doesn’t even finish all of that. The next patch should put the game in a playable state start to finish. Hopefully that won’t take another 3 months, but yeah…. I realize how hilariously bad 6% progress in 3 months is. On the “bright” side, Paradox part 2 is confirmed to not be this year.

P.S. I’ll update later this week with some other monster girl games you should be paying attention to.

Oh look 1.20 actually came out

July 11, 2015 by Dargoth 726 Comments

It’s real! Busy converting all the ancient 1.03 translation files that I’ve been using as a baseline over to 1.20. Got lots of items and random stuff in 1.10 format that I’m really hoping Fanservicefan can help convert himself…

At any rate, I’m alive. Bad weekend for both me and MGL, but oh well. At least we have the damn patch now.

Updated translation patch this weekend. I promise.
