Hopefully I didn’t miss a quotation mark or anything that causes a crash. I already found out that I’m going to have to alter my word-wrap script again, but I think I manually fixed the problems it created this time.

If anyone who’s good with regular expressions wants to help me out, I’ve got this to match brackets:
separatebybrackets = re.compile(r'[^[]+|[[^]]*]s*’)

Unfortunately, it doesn’t handle nested brackets. So the line:
[eval exp=”kag.tagHandlers.trans(%[layer:’base’, method:’universal’, rule:’左から右へ2′, vague:64, time:1300*sf.Effect])”]
only gets matched as
[eval exp=”kag.tagHandlers.trans(%[layer:’base’, method:’universal’, rule:’左から右へ2′, vague:64, time:1300*sf.Effect]

Can anyone see how to rewrite the regex so it matches the entire line? It’d save me a lot of trouble.
EDIT: Nevermind, got it first try. [^[]+|[[^]]*[[^]]*][^]]*]s*|[[^]]*]s* (what a monster)

Special thanks for image editing help goes to:
Raidis, art team leader for the currently in development VN at http://blog.love-despite.com/ (He did those nice-looking title buttons for me)
Zin for an assortment of other random buttons and icons

So here’s a second patch that translates pretty much every image you need to play the game along with all the battle text (not the battle dialogue though). As for the scenario itself, just the very beginning is done (and all the choices). Purane’s H-scene is partially translated and not word wrapped. Sorry, the image editing has destroyed my time in the last week, but it’s all scenario stuff from here on. Like with VH2, I currently intend to release a storyline patch first and then go back and do h-scenes. VH3 tried a bit harder with its story than previous titles, but it’s still no MGQ or anything.

Images that aren’t translated:
Anything related to the yokai encyclopedia
Area names
Enemy nameplates
The seal clues
The “NEW” indicator for areas
Trap/healing message
Choice selection on the right in battle (fairly redundant)
A few other little random kanji that might pop up

There’s definitely a chance that I translated some images and left them out of the patch by accident though. If you run into something written in Japanese not on the list and think it’s important, leave a comment. It might have been a mistake.

Names are still subject to change, but right now I’m going with Lei Ling, Fan Mei, and Sei Mei. I still find it annoying that Fan Mei is often referred to as “The Nine-Tailed Kitsune” as both a title and a name. It works in Japanese I guess, but it’s an awkwardly long title for English, especially when it’s being used in her presence. Everyone else has a laundry list of titles as well, but none are such a mouthful. Oh well, I’ll deal with it.

Violated Hero 3 out, basic interface translation

July 19, 2013 by Dargoth 74 Comments

Game’s out now. English DLSite link: http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE118597.html

So this weekend is really bad for me, but I managed to do some editing on the tutorial images, some buttons, stats screen, etc. based on the demo. It’s a start and will hopefully help a few people actually play the game.

This is super quick and dirty and untested. I’m in a rush. Usual patching process applies, at least the extracting part only has to be done once. Hopefully it works. 🙂

VH3 Demo and Preliminary Info

DLSite Announce Page: http://www.dlsite.com/maniax/announce/=/product_id/RJ118597
Demo: http://dl.redistribution.cc:8008/contents/doujin/2013/07/dieselmine/okasare3.zip (thanks to Zin for finding a working link)

This time around, the protagonist is an 陰陽師 exorcising yokai/ayakashi. Apparently Dieselmine really doesn’t like calling their monsters “monsters.” If you want to see the biggest wall of text ever on Wikipedia, check out that article for onmyoji. They were apparently Taoist diviners/fortune-tellers/exorcists in ancient Japan (and I assume China too) that worked for the government.

So the yokai go on a rampage and the Empress sends you on a mission to go exorcise them. Calling the protagonist an exorcist seems fine, but the monsters are a bit more problematic since you don’t exactly exorcise monsters. “Spirits” could work or perhaps I’ll just leave them as yokai (and maybe translate out all usages of ayakashi since I’ll be damned if there’s any real difference between the two). The head yokai is a nine-tailed kitsune who is alternatively called both 九尾 (nine-tails) and 皇美 (empress beauty). Does she have two names just to be annoying? The catgirl refers to her as 九尾様 but the slime maid uses 皇美様. I thought maybe the protagonist wouldn’t know the second name because it’s more personal, but nope, he uses it right at the beginning.

Since someone who was familiar with Chinese names helped me out last time, we have even more of them this time around.

皇美 Huáng měi (Japanese pronunciation: Fanmei)
麗鈴 Li Ling, Lai Ling (Japanese pronunciation: Reirin)
星冥 Xīng Míng (Japanese pronunciation: Seimei)

Any ideas or suggestions? I’d like their names to sound similar to the Japanese pronunciations but look natural in English.

Desire Dungeon English v1.12

Desire Dungeon English Version 1.12

Mega: https://mega.nz/#!jJA1nY5R!mOQwMKTw73NQ4i0w-yltn4hVM8cWAZCCUVrySWMkYrs

It was brought to my attention that the original author released a v1.10 patch today which fixed the occasional crash when fighting the Mimic. The damage calculations only checked for damage > 0, not damage >= 0. I’ve updated the English patch to reflect the new changes. Although I normally wouldn’t consider this a big enough change to warrant incrementing the version number to 1.10, I figured I may as well match the official patch number to avoid confusion. I went ahead and also included the updated credits screens into the English patch (not that anyone really cared) so you shouldn’t need any of the official Japanese patches at all.

October 6, 2013 update to version 1.11 to fix 2 untranslated lines.
December 19, 2013 update to version 1.12 to address locale-related ending crash (maybe)
v1.02 Fixes Mimic crash (didn’t handle the 0 case in damage properly).
v1.01 Fixes untranslated Moebius ring text.

Original game created by Yokubou no tou:

Translated by:
RogueTranslator http://roguetranslations.wordpress.com/
Dargoth http://dargothtranslations.wordpress.com/

Included files:
English readme.txt – this file
0.txt – English script file
DesireDungeonwrap.exe – game executable compatible with translation patch
/cg/ – folder containing title screen images

Installation instructions:
1. Copy all files to your Desire Dungeon directory.
2. Run DesireDungeonwrap.exe

Other things:
1. Window/Full Screen modes: alt+enter
2. Use Windows sound mixer to change volume. The game has no volume controls.

Common solutions to problems:
1. Run the game in Japanese locale.
2. Make sure the game directory and files aren’t write-protected or account protected by UAC.
3. If you crash fighting the mimic, sorry. There’s something weird going on with her that we haven’t been able to figure out.
4. You can’t use old saves from the Japanese version. Sorry.
5. Make sure you have the full version of the game and not a trial.

Special thanks:
Somelolicatgirl – executable hacking for word wrap and fixing byte boundaries
Anthemoessa – item translation work and title screen buttons
Everyone that played early versions and reported bugs and typos

What isn’t translated: Encyclopedia entries for weapons, equipment, and items. All monster entries are translated, however.
